This position is also being advertised as a Fire Logistics Dispatcher. There is currently one opening; this announcement may be used to fill more than one vacancy in the Ely District, duty location Ely, Nevada. Serves as a Fire Dispatcher located in a dispatch center.
Receives fire reports, determines location, land status and current fire information, and dispatches personnel, equipment, aircraft, and/or supplies according to pre-defined plans or in response to resource orders from the field. Based on prior wildland firefighting experience and training anticipates needs based upon the status of fire suppression activities.
Receives, fills and tracks resource requests for fire and other emergency incidents. Initiates requests to higher organizational levels for additional resources, as needed.
Maintains resources status and tracking systems and operates telecommunications systems.
Processes and interprets weather information (e.g., spot weather, forecasts, weather station observations, current and forecasted weather, lightning direction and fuel moisture levels).
Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. These positions fall under the group qualification standards for Technicial and Medical Support positions in conjunction with the Individual Occupational Requirements for Range Technician.

This is a secondary/administrative fire position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). While secondary positions are not subject to the maximum entry age policy, the selectee must have prior service in a primary position and meet the transfer requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to be eligible for special retirement coverage.
THIS IS A DRUG TESTING DESIGNATED POSITION. In accordance with Executive Order 12564, and under the Department's Drug Free Workplace Program. Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. KSA 3: Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.

Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement; please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
For GS-04: Six months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least GS-03 in the federal service, AND 6 months of general experience. Specialized experience is further defined as experience as a wildland firefighter and experience communicating with co-workers, supervisor and the public on routine matters; OR 2 years of study above high school that included 12 semester hours in courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science; OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education.
For GS-05: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least GS-04 in federal service, further defined as experience with the basic processes, methods,and procedures associated within fire dispatch while working in a dispatch center or during wildland firefighting operations; OR Bachelor's degree with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a field directly-related to this position; OR that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as range management or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences; OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: This position requires special qualifications that have been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified.
Selective Factor 1: PRIOR WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Applicants must 90-days of prior wildland firefighting experience. This must be evidenced in your application. The Department of the Interior defines wildland firefighting experience as: any non-structure fire that occurs in the wildland. Wildland firefighting experience is gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal, or equivalent private sector fire position for no less than 90 days. Periods of wildland firefighting experience gained through militia and rural fire departments can also be credited as long as the total amount of this experience equates to at least 90-days. Wildland fires are categorized into two distinct types: a) Wildfires - Unplanned ignitions or prescribed fires that are declared wildfires, and b) Prescribed Fires/Planned ignitions - This description includes only fire line experience on a Prescribed Fire; it does not include experience in the planning stages. Prescribed fire experience must be supplemented by fire suppression experience in order to be creditable as previous wildland firefighting experience.
Selective Factor 2: This position has been categorized as an _Initial Attack Dispatcher_, a key fire management position under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard; the selectee must meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. To meet IFPM requirements, you must hold or have held the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualification Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher (EDRC).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
